I was born near Philadelphia, but I grew up in Fort Worth, Texas. I completed my PhD in 2018 in the George R. Brown School of Engineering and Computing at Rice University in Houston. I was jointly advised by Dr. Marina Vannucci of Rice University and Dr. Michele Guindani of the University of California, Los Angeles. I was trained in the Italian school of Bayesian analysis and it’s certainly influenced my stance :). For my undergraduate studies, I attended Baylor University from 2010-2013 studying Mathematics.
For some of my hobbies and interests, I’m into traveling, photography, and bike packing. You can find a selection of some of the photos I’ve taken traveling and bike packing below. I also have been practicing Spanish and Portuguese for the past several years intensely, and have achieved a moderate level of fluency in both. Additionally, I write poetry (which you can read on this blog. I am not in any context trained in writing, but I enjoy writing it) and I like to read fiction (primarily in English, but also Portuguese and Spanish). I very much love Backgammon, so you can find me playing with people all over Austin, Texas; my adopted home city.
I’ve had this blog since my second year of graduate school, which was abnormal for me as I’m a generally pretty private person, and it was never really my intention for it last this long. In the years since, the adventures, work, and hobbies have greatly changed, but one thing that hasn’t is a passion for these things. So here is to more adventures, new projects, and continued discovery of new pastimes in the years to come. If I keep the blog rolling I can share about them here, and of course post pictures :).
“Couldn’t you find him?” “The hell with him.” “Well I thought we were supposed help him.” “How the hell can you help that son of a bitch?” “By taking him fishing.” “He doesn’t like fishing; he doesn’t like Montana, and he sure as hell doesn’t like me.” “Well, maybe what he likes is someone trying to help him.” – A River Runs Through It.
